Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Jackie at Corendon Hotel in Amsterdam was a huge help when we discovered we’d booked January 24th instead of December 24th. She stayed calm, treated us with real care, and spent around 30 minutes working out a solution. Soon after, we heard that the incorrect booking had been successfully canceled, and Jackie even helped arrange three rooms for our stay. Truly outstanding service from her, a 10 out of 10. Thank you so much!

The hotel offers great value for its comfort and facilities, and I’d definitely stay here again. The rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable, and staff were welcoming, friendly, and professional. Though it isn’t in the city centre, it’s easy to get downtown in about 15-20 minutes, with tram and metro stations a short walk away. I especially enjoyed the well-kept Vitality Spa, with its pool, sauna, and steam room. The stylish Corendon Amsterdam New West also has a lovely restaurant, Mondi, serving tasty Caribbean-French food in a nice atmosphere.

I stayed one night and got upgraded, though I didn’t find the room particularly special. To me, the Deluxe felt like a standard room. Parking on the street was easy, and getting to the airport by car took about ten minutes.

There’s only one working guest lift for a hotel with more than 260 rooms, so queues were extremely long, often 20 minutes or more, unless you took the stairs. Cleaning staff regularly used this lift for their trolleys even though there’s a separate service lift, making the congestion worse. Be ready to haul luggage up as many as eight flights. Our first room smelled of fish and cooking odors, apparently because the ventilation was tied to the kitchen extraction system. We asked to move and were allowed to. We were told the pool is closed to men at certain times on many days to offer women-only access for Muslim guests. I have no objection to faith-specific facilities in principle, but this should be clearly stated on the website when booking. Since using the pool was a specific reason for my booking, I would have liked the chance to make an informed choice beforehand. Poor facilities management, lack of transparency, and basic comfort problems make this hotel hard to recommend.
