Damrak Short Stay Amsterdam

The hotel is very close to the railway station, but there are lots of narrow stairs, so it’s definitely not wheelchair-friendly or accessible. The rooms are very small, which I don’t mind. The toilet doesn’t have a proper door, just a windowed saloon door, and the bed was so uncomfortable it hurt my back.

The service was excellent, and the location is hard to beat, just a minute's walk from everything. The bathroom was very clean and the hot water was properly hot. The beds were cozy, though the sheets and bedding had marks on them. Take care on the stairs. There’s a great fry place next door.

The front desk staff were lovely, even though I arrived an hour early. There’s free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, and the bed was a bit too soft for me. The room wasn’t terribly dirty, but it could’ve used a sweep and a wipe down. Expect plenty of stairs whatever room you’re in, since the hotel is above a shop. For the price, though, that’s about what I expected. I’d use it again.

We were there for four nights, and every day the towels were filthy, all of them covered in black and orange marks. The duvets looked orange and disgusting once they were out of their covers. We asked four times to have the bathroom cleaned, but it never happened.
