Hotel Dwars

It's impressive what they've done with this little house. The rooms are really nice and modern. We could store our luggage on arrival day and after checking out, too. The location was quite nice, closer to the center than we'd expected.

The little birthday touches made the stay especially lovely. I’d mentioned that the room was for my fiancé’s birthday, and they decorated it and left lots of chocolates, including vegan ones. I also really liked the tea they had. The room was cozy and clean, right in the city centre, and they gave us a list of food places to try. Definitely recommend!

We had friendly check-in and check-out, and leaving our bags there was no problem. The directions for finding the hotel were clear, and they had great local food recommendations. It’s a lovely part of Amsterdam, and our room was immaculate, nicely laid out, with comfortable beds and thick mattress toppers. A fantastic little hotel.

We’d had a great stay at Hotel Dwars a few years ago, so we went out of our way to book it again for a week in Amsterdam. We won’t be returning after this visit. The main problem was extraordinary noise from another guest’s room. They had a stereo speaker and seemed to be using it to turn the room into a makeshift nightclub. We had no Dutch phone number to call, and there was no landline in the room or the small ground-floor lobby, so we couldn’t reach staff about the noise. We later emailed the manager professionally to explain our concerns, but she took three days to reply. At this price, that’s unacceptable. Competent management means engaging with guests, and she failed to address the problem. We can’t recommend the property anymore. The staff we met, apart from the manager, were friendly and sympathetic. There were also some large spiders in the room that should have been removed before we arrived. Amsterdam has plenty of other places to stay, and we’ll choose different accommodation next time.
