Hotel Jesse

The location is really handy, within walking distance of everything in central Amsterdam. Staff were helpful, and they kept the rooms and bathrooms clean. The rooms were good quality by hostel standards. The staircase is the drawback. It’s a pain to go up and down, and feels dangerous because there’s barely room to place your foot on a step. The hotel flags this on its website, so there isn’t much you can do about it.

The stairs are too narrow, and there’s no elevator. They didn’t really provide towels in the room.

The rooms were small, but decent and clean enough that nobody died. The stairs are so steep it’s almost like rock climbing, and the steps are tiny, so size 3 feet or smaller would be best. The shared toilet is incredibly cramped. Unless you’re an amputee, your knees will barely fit without touching the door while you sit. There’s no shower curtain or screen, so water goes everywhere. Ask for two extra towels to spread on the floor.

The location is excellent for a short stay: right behind Dam Square, about a 10-minute walk from Central Station, and with a tram stop right outside. The receptionist was helpful and polite, and the bathroom and shower were clean. I had a room on the third floor in a six-bed dorm, and the very narrow, almost vertical stairs were tough with heavy luggage. There was no power outlet beside my bed for charging my phone, and no luggage lockers, only a small one for personal items. The bathroom was a little small too. Best if you’re travelling light.
