Kooyk Hotel

We found Hotel Kooyk on booking and were really pleased with the price for our two-night stay. It’s close to the center of Amsterdam, and the woman who welcomed us was kind and professional. Our room was big, had three beds, and looked out onto a wonderful canal view. We also got our own card for access to the hotel and room, with no time limit. The maid took an interest in us and cleaned the room perfectly. We were there as a couple, but the bed was two single beds pushed together, which wasn’t very comfortable. Everything else was perfect. Highly recommended 💕

Our host was friendly, but the room photos were completely misleading. We paid €200 a night for a room that seriously needs fixing up, and at that price we shouldn’t have had to share the bathroom and toilet. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room was in decay, with mould, rust, bugs, dust, damp, and an underlying smell of urine. The door wouldn’t lock, and the TV was about the size of my forearm and didn’t work. The shared bathroom would have been acceptable if it weren’t like a coffin. My girlfriend had bites, and we both felt itchy. We’re students on a very tight budget, but we were so horrified by the idea of sleeping there that we left within two hours. We found a nearby hotel, the Quentin, for 60€ a night, with much higher standards and staff who were actually there. We left the keycards on the desk, and I’m now trying to get every cent of my 300 euro payment back. This is the most reprehensible, foul, deplorable “hotel” I’ve seen in my twenty years. I can’t put my hatred and disgust into words.

The woman working there was nice, and I liked the location. Everything else was okay, I guess. But I booked this hotel during a 15-hour overnight layover hoping to get some rest before my 11-hour flight the next morning, and the night was anything but restful. There was no private bathroom, and I kept hearing people going in and out of their rooms and slamming the heavy doors, so I woke up many times. The pillows were lumpy and really uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you need a good night’s sleep.
