Hotel V Frederiksplein

The staff were lovely, and the shared lounge was really nice. It’s not right in the center, which keeps things quiet, but it’s easy to get around by foot or tram. The room decor is a bit tired and could use an update. A good place if all you need is a bed.

The location worked really well for us. We could cycle to the busy tourist spots in under 10 minutes, then come back to the quieter edge of De Pijp, with its relaxed restaurants and bars and fewer tourists. Breakfast was a good continental spread, with two kinds of eggs, different breads, yogurt toppings, and friendly staff bringing coffee and fresh juice when asked. Sitting by the big lobby windows was lovely. We had a large double room with plenty of space, big windows, and a balcony overlooking the street toward the square. The bed was huge, the sheets felt fresh, and the pillows were very comfortable. The lighting was quite moody, so if you wear makeup, bring a portable mirror to use by the window. Otherwise, it gave the room a romantic feel. When we arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and offered us a glass of cava. They’d also left a card, balloons, and Tony’s chocolate on the bed for my husband’s birthday, which I’d mentioned when booking. Such a nice gesture. I’d seen a lot of bad reviews and wanted to share how our long weekend at hotel V Fred actually went. We had a brilliant time.

The lobby looks great and the service was good, but the stay got off to a rough start. We waited two hours to check in because the room wasn’t ready. Then we were given a basement room that felt like a prison cell, as other reviews have said. I’d booked separate beds but got a double, so we paid €20 to upgrade. After that things were mostly fine, although the toilet wasn’t very clean and the sink water wouldn’t drain properly.

We had a great time in the spacious, comfortable loft, especially with the good bed and handy little kitchenette. The location was excellent, just a short walk from good shops and restaurants, and the staff were welcoming and professional. Sam was especially friendly and helpful. A few things could be better: the towels need an upgrade, dust builds up quickly in the room, and a daily sweep along with a towel change would help. The bathroom layout was good, but the air-conditioning in our room didn’t work, so it got pretty warm at night with the windows closed. We’ll be back.
