Hotel Van Gogh

The location was awesome and the rooms were decently clean, but it felt cramped with four people. For the price, it was pretty much what you’d expect. Check-in and check-out went smoothly, and the rooms were cleaned daily. There’s an elevator, but the view from our room was horrendous. Also, the TVs aren’t smart, so don’t count on watching YouTube or Netflix.

The service was extremely nice and made us feel welcome. I’m giving four stars because the price was fair and the service was good. But avoid the first floor if you value sleep: at 6am we could hear people walking, talking and doing anything else, as if there were no wall at all. The pillows were dirty, with hair and some kind of makeup on them, and the bathroom had loads of hair. I’m no germophobe, so I could bear it.

The location is great, but the first welcome left us dreading each time we went through reception, in case the same man put us in a bad mood again. We were in a triple room in March and arrived before check-in, hoping to leave our luggage. The man with glasses at the desk said check-in wasn’t open and told us to use the machine. While we were figuring it out, he then told us the room wasn’t ready, so we said we’d come back later. It was odd that he insisted the desk was closed but was there anyway. When we asked about luggage storage, he took us to the room and spoke loudly and authoritatively, telling us exactly how to place our bags. The room’s cleanliness was acceptable on the first day. During the next two or three days, the beds were made but the floor wasn’t cleaned, and the towels were stained and hadn’t been washed well. We were so bothered by the staff member’s attitude and cleanliness that our review would have been much worse if we’d written it during the trip.

The check-in and check-out were a breeze, and I slept well during my one-night stay before leaving early the next day. My room was very spacious and clean, with a wall decorated in the van Gogh style. It was a pleasant surprise to get a free room upgrade. I was greeted at the front desk by a very kind, cheerful man.
