Inn on the Lake

We were the only guests that evening, and since my wife is vegetarian, the owner prepared two separate three-course meals for us. She’s a great chef. The honesty bar was well stocked, and we enjoyed the games too. A lovely place for a quiet escape close to Amsterdam, with very nice owners.

The meals were my favorite part of the weekend, and every little detail made me feel really well looked after. I had the coziest, most luxurious stay at the Inn on the Lake. I’d come back a million times. A must-stay!

We paid over 300 Euro for a luxury double room, but the experience felt hugely overhyped and nowhere near worth the price. The room furniture, amenities, and view were good quality, but the jacuzzi water was dirty, so we only stayed in it for about 10 minutes. We barely slept because a couple with a three-month-old baby was in the family room next to our supposedly ultra-luxury room. The baby cried all night. For a luxury stay, the property should be adults-only, or at least take the children’s ages into account. Breakfast was a complete mess. We struggled to communicate with someone who didn’t speak English. We said we don’t eat pork, but were served pork anyway. Apart from that, there was only an overly sweet yogurt granola that looked fancy without being substantial. We also had no idea what or when anything would be served, and at one point had to get up and ask if that was all. I never expected to be this disappointed after spending so much. I’d urge people to think about the opportunity cost before booking. The hype kept us from choosing alternatives that might have been truly amazing.

The food was fantastic, especially the incredible meal Chef Tim made for us in a cozy, intimate setting. It happened to be just the two of us there that evening, and breakfast was great too. We stayed one winter night for my birthday after cycling from Amsterdam, and were welcomed so warmly. We’d booked massage treatments and got to use the hot tub as well. Our room looked out over the lake and had an amazing bathtub. Inn on the Lake is a gem in a beautiful village, just a short distance from Amsterdam, and one of my favorite little getaways.
