Mercure Amsterdam West

The hotel is quite far out, but I personally liked it overall. Staff were welcoming and helpful, and my room was spacious compared with the other room I had during my trip. Breakfast was so-so, western style, but okay for me. I had no complaints since I only came here to sleep, and the experience was really nice.

Dear Sir/Madam, I’m staying at your hotel now and am very dissatisfied with the service. I arrived around 1:00 PM and was told my room wasn’t ready. When booking, and again on arrival, I made clear that I was travelling with my two young children, aged eight and nine, and needed connecting rooms. Although I booked two rooms, they were separate and did not connect. That setup isn’t suitable for a family with young children because I can’t stay together with them. Staff suggested the father stay with the son and the mother with the daughter, which is not a reasonable solution for our family. I’ve stayed at Mercure hotels for many years and haven’t faced this kind of problem before. This has been very disappointing and has affected how I see your brand. Please address this urgently and provide a suitable solution.

We came to Amsterdam in summer 2024 for a comedy festival. Since we’d be arriving late, I suggested staying near the airport for our first night. The hotel website pointed us to a bus from the airport, but it dropped us several blocks away in the middle of the night, and we had to ask strangers for directions. Once we reached the building, we had to walk all the way around it to get in. There should be another entrance for people coming on foot from that bus stop, or at least clearer signs. We’d paid beforehand but were still charged tourist tax, something no other place in Amsterdam did. The late check-in staff weren’t especially friendly either. Breakfast was a little pricey and just fine, nothing bad but nothing special. After checkout, we needed a ride service to get into the city, so the stay was far from convenient. The rest of our trip in the country was great, though. Our return flight was delayed a day because of the global outage, so we stayed at the nearby Ramada and had a much better experience. We should have chosen them in the first place. Next time, we’ll book somewhere in the city and take the train from the airport. Don’t let the location fool you.

The hotel was good, and the front desk staff worked quickly. My room was quite cold, though. There was no heating in the bathroom, and the floors were freezing.
