New Century Hotel Amsterdam

I should’ve checked the Google reviews before booking. The “Hotel” takes no responsibility. Avoid it unless you’re fine with not sleeping.

The price was decent and the bed was comfortable, but a lot of things were wrong. The Wi-Fi didn’t work, the window was broken and left slightly open, and some bathroom fittings were broken too. The tram stop is close by. Take Tram 1 or 17 into town.

The worst part was the bed. I’d just lain down when I felt something, switched on the light, and saw bed bugs crawling across the bed and pillow. I was horrified and disgusted. At reception, the guy didn’t seem surprised when I reported it, which made me think this might have happened before. I grabbed my things, ran out and spent the night at the airport. Save yourself the trauma. The rooms were filthy, with someone else’s hair on the pillow and in the bed, a large TV stain of questionable origin, and cigarette burns on the sheets and mattress despite the hotel being listed as non-smoking. The towels had big holes and hair on them. The hallways were run down and poorly lit, and I saw dirty sheets left in a pile on the floor. The online pictures are completely unreal. Absolutely horrifying, avoid this place at all costs.

I booked two nights but left as soon as I saw the room. It was disgusting, with bed bugs and cockroaches, and looked like it had never been cleaned. They promised me a refund and handed me pieces of paper that were supposedly proof it had gone through. A month later I still had no money back, and had to go through a long, drawn-out process with booking.com to finally recover it. Avoid this place, it’ll ruin your vacation.
