The Noorderkerk itself is impressive, with its tall walls and calm atmosphere, and the Van Gogh and Rembrandt light and sound show makes striking use of the whole space. Their works are projected across the church while the narration follows their lives and art. It’s an immersive, moving experience, and the mix of images, sound, and storytelling brings the artists to life. There’s also a sweet little gift shop with Van Gogh-themed things, unusual small gifts, and handmade Christmas decorations. A memorable way to experience the Jordaan, and a lovely chance to take home a small memento.
Van Gogh and Rembrandt’s paintings are presented in a really different way here.
Baltasar, the host and presenter, was outstanding, and my 7-year old loved the show. It’s a great choice with kids and totally worth going. The audio draws entirely on Van Gogh’s letters, while the visuals use art by Rembrandt and Van Gogh.
Almost every Saturday I come here for fresh produce, good ingredients, and artisanal bread. It’s the best organic market in Amsterdam, with a lively feel and vendors who really care about what they sell. A must for anyone into good food and sustainability!
