Prince On The Roof

We were surprised to learn that Darja was from Slovakia, and she was an extremely friendly host. Since it was Valentines, she even gave us a bottle of champagne, which was very thoughtful. The rooftop apartment itself was amazing, clean, and beautifully styled with great colors, and the people were friendly, including the cute dog. The location was good and fairly close to the center.

The flat has a lovely balcony, and the location is very good. Leon, who showed us around, was genuinely kind and polite. But our experience with Darja was awful, and we won’t book with her again. We booked Prince on the Roof through the website, and after Darja told me by phone to email a reservation request, I did and paid the deposit. A few days before arrival, I sent our flight details and agreed to pay €40,- for late Check-In. Our flight was delayed by an hour, and I emailed her about it five hours before the planned Check-In. When we got there at 00:30h, nobody answered the door or phone. There was no sign identifying the B&B or giving another number to call. We waited half an hour in the cold and dark, then went to another hotel around the corner, Andaz, which was REALLY nice. The next morning Darja didn’t apologize. Instead, she blamed me for not calling about the delay, even though I had emailed, and demanded the late Check-In payment while speaking rudely to me. She had our flight number and my phone number, but still insisted I should have called, though nobody had answered. She said this was only a hobby and that she didn’t run it professionally. We eventually agreed on a payment, but the whole thing left a bad taste and ruined part of our holiday.

A lovely little find about a twenty-minute walk from central. The hosts were wonderful and their hospitality couldn’t have been better. I’ll be back.

The neighborhood is peaceful, and you can walk to the museums easily, or reach central Amsterdam without much trouble. Just be ready for the steep stairs with your bags. If you can manage those, this rooftop apartment is excellent.
