Royal Amsterdam Hotel

The location in Rembrandt square was the only good thing for me. Over four days, I dealt with four staff members, and every one was rude, argumentative, and unhelpful. At breakfast the food was sad and stale, and the staff acted rude, like they were doing me a favor. The room wasn’t cleaned either. I left the “please clean room” sign out from 8 am to 1 pm, but no one came. When I returned between 1 and 2 pm, the front desk said the cleaning staff had already left for the day. The shower doors leak, so you need several towels on the floor to keep the whole bathroom from flooding. There’s also a nightly €30 resort fee. They ask you to write down your credit card details and hand them over for the security deposit, which is ridiculous. I’d urge people never to consider this hotel or restaurant.

The staff were nice, and the location has good public transport connections, but the hotel is definitely overpriced. The room had worn details and concerning cleaning issues: spider webs on the window, food stains on the curtains, and a shower that clearly hadn’t been cleaned, with limescale stains everywhere. The breakfast buffet had cold, dried scrambled eggs. That really doesn’t match €200 a night. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want a quiet area.

The location was great, and the front desk staff were very nice. The bathroom was good too, but the room itself was small. There were big black hairs in our bed, though neither of us has black hair, and the floor was really dirty. The hallways and elevator smelled awful, like dirty feet or a litter box. Breakfast was okay, but what I thought was a hard cheese seemed to be a cheese that had been put out for multiple days.

We only managed one night of our booking for 13-15 March before moving to another hotel. The room smelled of sewers, and the manager wouldn't move us or refund us. He said a room change might be possible the next day, but we didn't stay to find out. The bathroom door only slid halfway shut, and the shower was dripping over hair and soapy water left in the base. The bed had stains and hair on it too. When I complained, someone brought up sheets that didn't look clean and told me to change them myself. There was even toilet paper on the floor under the desk when we arrived, as shown in the photos. It felt like housekeeping had just remade the previous guest's bed without cleaning the room. The elevator was tiny, barely big enough for two, and smelled like sewers as well. Please don't be taken in by the four stars. This place was a dive and not worth the money. I didn't want to give it even one star, but Google required me to select one to post.
