SWEETS - Scharrebiersluis

The decor is adorable, and the bed was exceptional. We had a lovely time at 'Scharrebiersluis'. It's on the east side, about a 10-minute walk from Amsterdam Central station, with several museums, the botanic garden, and the zoo nearby. The bathroom and toilet aren't especially convenient, but they're manageable for a night or two. I'd happily recommend this unusual stay.

We loved having the place to ourselves, with the independence of an Airbnb and hotel touches like fresh towels, slippers, a big comfortable bed, and a very clean, well-organized room. We're already thinking about trying another bridge house. The handwritten welcome note was a nice touch, and the SWEETS Hotel book gave us a fun bit of history. I also liked the spirit levels left in the room, a funny nod to how crooked the house is. We ate at a nearby vegan sushi bar and had breakfast at Bakers & Roasters. Both were delicious. I was a little unsure about the three heating controls, for the bedroom radiator, aircon, and toilet radiator. The toilet one was especially awkward, but once we worked them out, the room warmed up quickly. No real complaints. We wanted somewhere central and cozy for a couples holiday, and this fit perfectly. I worried the busy road and apparent bridge construction nearby might make it noisy. The bridge wasn't there during our stay, which was a bit of a shame, but it was actually peaceful and we slept fine. The bed was really comfy.

There's a pub and restaurant opposite, so we didn't need room service. The room was more spacious than expected, with excellent facilities and thoughtful decor that made for a relaxed stay. It felt different from a hotel or apartment, with an authentic Amsterdam character and a sense of history. I'd thoroughly recommend it if you're after something out of the ordinary.

The little bridge house was in a quiet neighborhood, with hardly any foot traffic or noise. My wife and I had a cozy, warm stay and a wonderful holiday together. It’s one of the loveliest places I’ve ever been lucky enough to stay. Now we want to try all the SWEETS hotels. Each one is unique and offers a special way to see Amsterdam.
