Train Lodge Amsterdam - Hostel

There’s a nice outdoor terrace, the beds were clean and linen was included, and the staff were friendly. The walk-in shower was good too. Sloterdijk is close, with handy connections to Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport, and the price felt fair. The area isn’t especially fun, though, and passing trains can make it a little noisy. That’s also part of staying in a train, I suppose.

The staff were so kind and laid-back, and there are shops at the station for picking up supplies. There’s also a breakfast club right next door. A great park with tiny houses is just a five-minute walk away. Most of all, my five-year-old was thrilled to sleep in a fantastic vintage train carriage and watch the station from there. Highly, highly recommended!

It’s right beside Sloterdijk station, so you can get anywhere from there. Staying in a sleeper train that doesn’t move is a pretty unique experience, and honestly more comfortable than when a train is in motion. I had a six-person room, though, and it felt very cramped for that many people. The showers were spacious, while the toilets were tight.

We were well looked after here, and I’d happily recommend it to families visiting Amsterdam. The lodge is clean and quirky, a fun place for kids who like exploring. Nick even suggested a lovely beach three bus stops away, and Bus 369 got us there quickly. I stayed two nights with my two 11-year-old sons. One got sick on the first night, and the air conditioning in our room wasn’t cooling properly. The team quickly helped us move to a more comfortable room. The next day Nick went out of his way to give me directions to the nearest pharmacy so I could get the medication we needed. Thanks to him and Nathalie, we didn’t have to cut our trip short.
