Floris Hotel

The only thing I can praise is the pillows. As someone who travels a lot, I found very little else positive, and I can’t understand the comments praising the location. Getting checked in was a nightmare: there’s no reception here, so you have to walk back and forth to another hotel. That other hotel is a fair walk away, and when we emailed to ask about printing boarding passes, nobody replied. The building is an old Dutch house being used as a hotel, with box-sized rooms and makeshift shower rooms. Our room, number 11, was on the second floor, up four steep flights of stairs. The layout is confusing too, as you pass rooms 20 and 13 and others on the way. Some rooms belong to hotel Floris and some don’t, with other hotel names on stickers on the doors. There’s no one on site to help or advise. Service was nonexistent. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel or anything connected with the company. Find somewhere better, in a better location. This is a joke.

The location turned out to be great, very close to the center. Albert Knap market was a five-minute walk, Van Gogh museum and Stedelijk museum took 15 minutes, and the Red Lights Districts were about 20 minutes away. Lidl is just 40 metres from the hotel, and there’s a breakfast cafe opposite, to the left. Check-in is at Iris hotel, about 3-5 minutes away, which really wasn’t a problem. The room was nice and clean, with a safe, adjustable heating, and a new bathroom with a hairdryer. Staff were pleasant and ready to help, and there was a phone in the room to call them. I’d recommend staying here in lovely Amsterdam. I’d read the reviews before booking and was astonished when I arrived because Hotel Floris is such a nice place.

A decent choice if you won’t be spending much time in the room. The location and staff were good. There’s no lift, and the rooms are tiny. In one room, the toilet was in the shower, which leaked and didn’t drain properly. Check-in is at Hotel Iris, a block away.

The room was really small, and having the toilet in the shower was odd, but it didn’t put us off. The staff at the check-in hotel were so friendly, and we’d go back. The location was great, away from too many tourists.
