Tropen Apartments

We had a clean room with the things you'd expect, including a kettle, coffee machine and TV. The views over Amsterdam are impressive, especially from higher floors. They initially left us with only two towels for a three-bed room, but that small inconvenience was sorted quickly. The hotel delivers what you'd expect from a three-star place, and the staff were especially happy to help with anything. I'd gladly return.

There are nice restaurants and shops nearby, and the hotel's location is decent. Trams for Dam Square and Centraal stop right outside. The rooms are a reasonable size. An unusual feature was that the toilet and bathing area are in separate spaces, so it feels like having two bathrooms. Breakfast costs an extra €12.5.

The people were very friendly, and the location worked well for visiting Amsterdam. The hotel is old and being renovated, though, and the rooms have no air conditioning. The balconies can't be accessed either. During our warm-weather stay, the rooms got extremely uncomfortable, and the temperature only came down to a decent level at night.

It's a nice, clean and comfortable place in a central part of the city, with facilities nearby. The rooms were good too, though there was a problem assigning me the right one, which is why I'm giving four stars. Walking to the city centre takes about 30 minutes. I'd suggest the tram or a bicycle.
