Westlake Hotels Amsterdam

We stayed before Christmas, and the room was awful for what we paid. The hotel was cheap, but not cheap enough to justify this. We paid for three stars, and it felt like a one-star place. The new management clearly seemed inexperienced at running a hotel. The room was dirty, with a straw on the seats, a cigarette under my bedside, and black gunk on the desk. Our window wouldn't lock, and the view was of dumped rubbish. They'd taken all the art and TVs out of the rooms. We asked for a kettle and were told there weren't any. We also asked for extra pillows; they said they had none, then gave us spare pillowcases. How can a hotel not have extra pillows? You won't want to spend time in this hotel. The nearest tram stop is a 15-minute walk away.

The bed was comfortable, and the staff were always available and willing to help, which we appreciated. The room itself was damp and not very clean, with no TV, and most of the electrical outlets didn't work properly. It stayed very cold until yesterday and took a while to warm up. Renovations are underway, so there's no gym, rooftop terrace, or kitchen at the moment. The stay was okay.

I had a wonderful stay and would book again if I come back to Amsterdam. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Ask for Aida, she's amazing, knows a lot, and was great with all my requests. The location is okay. It's a 10-minute walk to the 17 tram, which takes about 40 minutes to reach the city center. There's also a great convenience store within an eight-minute walk. New owners took over a month before I arrived, so some things are still being updated. Highly recommend.

They wouldn't let us in because my passport had been stolen. I showed several documents to prove who I was, but it didn't help. They kept saying it was policy, and apparently the manager was busy.
