Xplore Hostel Amsterdam

It’s right in the city centre, so most tourist spots are within walking distance. Just be prepared for the steep stairs, and I wouldn’t bring huge luggage if you’re staying upstairs. We were given the wrong key and had to go back for the right one, which made climbing the stairs tiring. Apart from that, everything was okay.

The worst part was the receptionist. When I told him, an Iranian guy, about the problem, he was rude and started shouting at me for no reason. At one point he even seemed ready to start a fight. The rooms were filthy and disgusting, and most guests were shouting and talking through the night. Don’t waste your time or money here!

I can’t believe how awful this place was. The men sharing our room were creepy and made us feel very uncomfortable from the moment we arrived. The room smelled like wet, moldy socks, absolutely disgusting. There were stains on the sheets and pillows, and mold crawling up the shower walls. Everything felt grimy and unhygienic. We tried to raise it with staff, but they were unbelievably rude and dismissive and didn’t help at all. We left after just one night because we couldn’t stand another minute. One of the most disgusting, unpleasant travel experiences I’ve had. Avoid this place at all costs.

The location is great, and I stayed in an 8-bed female dorm where everything else was okay. But I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my belongings in the room. The lockers they provide for your own padlock didn't work, and staff said they couldn't be held responsible if anything went missing. They also charge €10 per key, which you get back at checkout.
