City Hotel Haarhuis - World Hotels Crafted Collections

I was waiting for my train and stopped in for a drink. The young woman at the bar made me feel so welcome that I'll definitely come back next time I'm in town. I was especially interested in their hypophonic garden, and she took plenty of time to explain how it worked and what they use it for. The lobby and restaurant are really beautiful too.

The room was comfortable, and breakfast was exceptional. They served smaller portions, and both the quality and presentation were excellent. Other hotels could learn a thing or two from them.

I booked and paid through your official website. A day later, a WhatsApp message came to the number I had provided at checkout, saying there was a problem with the booking. It sent me to a payment page where I paid 300 euros. Then they said the payment hadn't gone through and asked me to try again, this time for 1000 euros. At that point I realized something was wrong. That's on me, I fell for it. I'm stupid. What's on your company is that someone between your website and front desk shared my personal details with a malicious party. My phone number and the exact booking dates were leaked. That's a huge GDPR breach. Your company is leaking personal information.

The location was the one positive for me, but I would never book this place again. I travel about 100 days a year for work, and this was one of my worst hotel stays. Calling it a five-star experience feels fraudulent. The rooms are tiny, the bed lights didn't work, and there's just one elevator for the rooms and everything else. The spa is cute, but the outdoor hot tub was dirty and nobody was staffing the spa. The rooftop bar sits directly above it, so there was noise and rooftop guests could look right into the tub. The cafe next to the spa also closed 45 minutes early because the staff had a fun dinner with colleagues that night. Coming back at night, I found a note on the door telling me to call a number to be let in. At five-star prices, on one of the most expensive nights because of a concert, you'd expect someone at the door or checking the camera. Parking couldn't be reserved either, and staff didn't answer emails. I'm flabbergasted by this place, its reviews, and the service. Edit: I changed my rating from 2 to 3 stars because the tall young gentleman with dark hair on the frontline staff responded fantastically to the feedback. It doesn't change the experience, but it makes a difference.
