Swissotel Amsterdam

The room was spacious, including the bathroom, and reception staff were helpful throughout. They also kindly let us check in early. For our one night in Amsterdam, the hotel's spot right at Dam Square was a perfect central base. It would have earned five stars from me if not for a safety issue: there was a gap about 15 inches down between the floor and the window. My wife fell into it when she went toward the window, though fortunately she wasn't hurt. I hope management takes this seriously. They should put an iron bar there so no one can reach the window.

The rooms were beautifully decorated and clean, with a sitting room, sofas, desk and TV, plus a separate bedroom with a huge bed. The bathroom was the most spacious we've ever had in a hotel, with a separate bath and shower. After hours of travel, friendly, smiling staff made us feel welcome right away. We chatted about it being Friday the 13th and riding in coach 13, and one staff member upgraded us to a suite for free. He also gave us two free tickets for a Lovers boat canal cruise, saving us 17.50 each. Then we made a dinner reservation and were handed a 20% off card for the bill. We stayed for two nights, and the whole visit made our time in Amsterdam more special. Over many years in lots of hotels, we've never had service that outshone this one at swissôtel amsterdam. We'll definitely be back and have already recommended it to friends and family. Thank you to the fantastic team! ❤️ The hotel is a four-star boutique property on Damrak, right beside Dam Square in Amsterdam's historic center. It has 114 sound-proofed rooms and suites behind a 19th-century facade, with large, beautifully decorated bathrooms.

Stevens, thanks so much for giving our holiday such a great start. He welcomed us warmly, checked us in and had a lovely chat with us. He also surprised us with an upgrade to a suite. It was spacious, clean and remarkably quiet for a hotel in the middle of everything. My wife had brought me here as a birthday surprise. The location made a great first impression, and although the hotel has a small, unassuming entrance, it's lovely and very clean inside, and much bigger than it looks from outside. We'd highly recommend it.

Iris was especially helpful, and the staff were reasonably attentive, but we left Swissôtel Amsterdam very disappointed. We had booked two separate rooms for three people, but one was on the second floor and the other on the sixth. Neither had any natural light, which made it hard to enjoy our stay and negatively affected our holiday. Breakfast was mediocre, and I expected much more at this price. Cash isn't accepted under any circumstances, but there was no warning during booking, so check-in became seriously difficult. I definitely wouldn't stay here again and can't recommend it.
