I got to experience this place as a local, living in the beautiful building for a long stretch as a student. It was the loveliest place and location I ever lived in in Amsterdam. The building's history and long family ownership give it a warmth that you can feel. Take a moment to notice the stunning Amsterdam architecture, inside and out, and the elegant details. I hope those remain after the renovation. I still miss my time there, more than a year later, but then graduation came and life moved on. New York City won me over next...

The location is great, and it's a lovely old building, but it needs a thorough clean and a lot of TLC. There were big holes in the towels, no TV as advertised because the remote had only one battery, cables left on the floor, and loose carpet on the stairs. I also got mosquito bites. The man who met us was pleasant enough, though we waited 10-15 minutes in the cold. When I later contacted him about the cleaning, I couldn't reach him and still had no reply four days later. A shame, because this could be a really lovely hotel.

The staff were excellent and very helpful, and the location near the center is amazing. The place was clean, with old-fashioned decor that didn't feel bad. The downside was having no elevator, and our room was on the third floor.

The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. It's a beautiful old Dutch building in a lovely part of the city. I'd recommend it and stay again.
