Keizershouse Amsterdam

The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished, with views over the canal in a gorgeous neighborhood. Breakfast was lovely, and several fine restaurants are nearby. The tram is just a stone's throw away, and all the sights are a reasonable walk. We also appreciated the personal attention and advice.

The rooms are in a private house right on a busy canal, with a very central location. Getting to them means climbing a particularly steep, narrow staircase to the first or second floor. Sound carries badly through the old building, from outside and elsewhere in the house. On our first evening, just after 10 pm, the landlady asked us to keep quieter even though we felt we were being fairly moderate. The combination of that and strict house rules made it hard to feel free to come and go. We also don't think the price matches the comfort and amenities, and couldn't confirm the host's claim of a four-star rating. It won't suit anyone looking for independence or modern comforts.

We slept so well in a huge, lovely room that was exceptionally clean, with a really comfortable bed. Breakfast was generous and delicious, and we enjoyed every bit of it. Nataliya was warm and had everything thought through down to the smallest detail. We'd be very happy to return.

Everything was within easy walking distance, and the room had a beautiful view. It was also wonderfully peaceful. The service and breakfast were both excellent, and I left very pleased.
