Hotel De Mallemoolen

The location is handy, very close to the train station, and the shared washroom was reasonably clean. I knew it was a one-star hotel and wasn't expecting luxury. Still, the price was similar to what I'd paid for two- or three-star places in Spain and Italy, and the basics here fell short. The room was small and had little atmosphere, but what frustrated me most was the lack of usable power outlets. There were only two, both near the ceiling, with nowhere to put a phone or device while it charged. Even budget hostels rated three stars usually have an outlet by the bed. When I asked for an extension lead, I was told no. They could at least provide a few extension cords if rewiring isn't possible. At this price, ignoring such a basic need is unacceptable.

We enjoyed our stay and plan to come back. The rooms were clean, the staff were friendly, and breakfast was good. The hotel is right in the center, within walking distance of the canals and other attractions. Thanks for making us feel welcome ❤️

The shared toilet was spotless every time, and my bedding was fresh and clean. The room looked a bit worn and could use some TLC, though it wasn't dirty. Staff were friendly and helpful, and for the price this was very good value. It's a good option for younger travellers spending just a few nights in Amsterdam. I'd bring earplugs because the walls are thin. I'd recommend it.

The location could have made up for the cramped, bare-bones room in this humble hotel if the place had been sanitary. But my bed was crawling with bed bugs. They gave me another room that seemed free of them, yet the front desk didn't even apologize. Beware!
