I was at Château de Raay in Baarlo on a business trip. The place is charming and quiet, the staff pleasant, and the restaurant nice. The food is good, but the prices don't seem to match the level of the cuisine or what you'd expect for the cost. What really spoiled the stay was the carpet in my room. It was extremely dirty, with stains everywhere, which is unacceptable in any hotel and especially one presented as upscale. It made the room much less comfortable. The walls are thin too, so noise can be an issue, although Dutch people seemed mindful of their neighbors while I was there. The hotel has potential, but the basic cleanliness in the room needs urgent attention. I wouldn't stay again unless this is fixed.

The meeting rooms worked well for our company workshop, and the catering during breaks was very good. We stayed for three days, and the large, bright rooms were comfortable. I slept in the historic main building, though there's plenty of room in the modern annex too. The restaurant and bar sit in a beautifully designed winter garden. Service was discreet but attentive. Breakfast was okay and so was lunch, while dinner in the restaurant was very good. The hotel is in a lovely setting, and walks are recommended.

I hadn't completed the online booking platform check-in, and there were no rooms available when I arrived. The receptionist went out of her way to help me find a room at another hotel. They have a high professional standard.

The food didn't quite match the rest of the experience. There were many new staff members, and a mistake was made with the ribeye, but the head person caught it. When we ordered another dish, they gave it to us on the house. That was impressive service, especially in the Netherlands, where service generally falls below the standard elsewhere in the world. The staff were kind, particularly Romy. We were lucky to get a complimentary upgrade, and the room was fantastic. The natural surroundings are wonderful for walking and exploring history. Apparently William of Orange stayed here for a while. I definitely recommend coming here.
