Strandhotel Duinheuvel

Room 121 was by the parking lot, with stairs up to two rooms and a small balcony overlooking the patio. We brought our little dogs to enjoy the beach just across the street, and the hotel included a dog welcome goodie bag and a blanket for them to sleep on. It really is dog friendly, with lots of guests bringing dogs and many cafes and places allowing them inside. It feels like a small dog village, and if you’re visiting Domburg with your dog, it’s a great place to stay. The smart TV lets you log in to Netflix or Prime Video for the evening. Remember to log out before checkout. We delete all login profiles when we visit the hotel. There’s no NPO Start login, which is a shame. There are also TV channels in many languages for relaxing indoors or for bad weather. The staff are friendly, and the continental breakfast has bread, juices, eggs, coffee, cheese, and more, mostly for German guests. The hotel also offers vegan breakfast options. Markt6 Restaurant serves all kinds of vegan dishes, and there are cafes and restaurants just around the corner serving vegan breakfast and lunch. There were lots of German tourists and it was crowded during last year’s Easter weekend, but it was still relaxed. The hotel is close to the beach, and there are plenty of cafes and places to eat nearby.

We travel often with our two toddlers, and this wasn’t our first hotel that didn’t turn out to be very child-friendly. Still, we’ve never had a colder welcome. It felt as if all hospitality had gone out to sea. Avoid.

The hotel has a lovely atmosphere, with a common area that feels like a cozy living room. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, the bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was nicely done. Breakfast was outstanding, and the beach is very close. We’ll definitely be back, and won’t stay anywhere else when we’re in Domburg or nearby.

The buffet breakfast had everything we wanted, including freshly squeezed orange juice, sticky cinnamon buns, and even a bottle of Sekt. Our room was nice, with a large bathroom, shower, and bathtub. It was cleaned and the towels were changed every day. The hotel is a one-minute walk from the beach and two to three minutes from town, so we could enjoy both the natural scenery and small-town amenities. Parking was free, though very narrow. We’d gladly come back on our next trip to Domburg.
