The restaurant was good, and breakfast had a decent range of choices. I was here on a business trip for one night, and the hotel is only about a five-minute walk from the station. My room felt small for what they charge, with just the basic amenities and no bottle of water. The lobby lift was painfully slow, which I needed with a heavy bag, and the stairs were cramped too. It was an okay stay, but I don't think the price was justified.

We could leave our bikes on the terrace behind the building beside the canal, though there isn't any proper bicycle parking. The location is central. The rooms were an adequate size, and our bathroom was almost too large. Breakfast was fine but nothing special. Calling it a boutique hotel is debatable, especially with such a large, traditional restaurant.

The owner emailed us to say he wouldn't do anything about our complaints. We had raised the problems both when we arrived and when we left, asking whether there would be compensation; the receptionist wrote them down and passed them on. Other guests were complaining about the same things. The renovations made the stay feel gloomy and unfinished. The restaurant wasn't available, and part of the bar was being used for breakfast. A quarter of the breakfast area was piled with building supplies, old stock, and other things, while the lights were off and it was very dark. A painter was working on the wall in the hallway right outside our door. Our room was sparsely furnished, the window was hard to open, and the blinds didn't make it dark. The thin door did little to block sound. The bathroom looked nice, but the quality and finish were very poor. On Booking.com the hotel and rooms had looked lovely, so the reality was a big disappointment. It was far too expensive for such mediocre quality, especially with so little comfort during the renovation.

The staff were friendly, and the place was clean and ideally located. The room was simple but had what I needed: a coffee maker, kettle, and fridge. After the initial impression wore off, I noticed some finishing details still need to be completed.

The new owners have completely renovated the place. Our room was cleaned well, breakfast was fresh and tasty, and the staff were very friendly. We got excellent service.
