Fletcher Strandhotel Haamstede

We’re very disappointed. The rooms are advertised as luxury, but ours didn’t even have a private bathroom or a proper shower. We also got no reply to our request.

The restaurant and food were excellent, and the place was beautiful and very clean. The location gets a full 10 from me. Reception was the letdown: the staff were rigid and unfriendly, and I didn’t see one smile. Location, cleanliness and restaurant: five stars. Staff: one.

The hotel itself was nice once we’d checked in, but the welcome was poor. The older blond woman at reception (25/10) wasn’t nice to us, and it made for a bad customer experience.

The spa looked beautiful, though it’s quite small, so I can imagine it getting crowded when the hotel is busier. There was no refreshment station with fruit or drinks, and ordering drinks took a while. There also wasn’t anyone available for beauty or massage treatments, which was a shame. We came as a couple for a weekend to unwind after a stressful time. The hotel is lovely and very well located, and you can tell it’s new, with lots of attention to detail. Our room was bigger than we expected, with a very comfortable bed and a large bathroom with both a tub and shower. We didn’t feel anything was missing from the room. The hotel and facilities seemed very understaffed during our stay, probably because of the pandemic, the crisis and the general staff shortage, but it did affect our stay and other guests’ too. We had a good, relaxing time, but I wouldn’t recommend the restaurant, at least not the three-course meal. The food, and especially the service, weren’t what I’d expect at this price level. One evening, the restaurant was overfilled because rain was expected, and there weren’t enough staff. There were lots of young employees, long waits, and unhappy customers. I’d probably eat elsewhere next time. Breakfast was nice, with a good variety.
