Hotel Heer Hugo

I stayed here three times for work. The hotel is nice, in a very good location, and easy to spot when arriving from Amsterdam. The rooms are nice, but check what equipment is included. Common areas are air conditioned. It can be noisy: the hotel is about a kilometre from Heerhugowaard center, the train station is a few dozen metres away, and a main road runs right beside it. On the other hand, travel, shopping, food, and drink are all in sight, and foam earplugs are an option 😆😉. I only have a rough idea of local accommodation prices, but €80-120 per night per person seems average. In Slovakia you might get a class or two higher, though it's not quite a fair comparison. The staff are kind and professional. After a few days, I changed my review. When ordering a beer in the restaurant, I've waited about half an hour for it more than once. On the fourth day, we returned from work to find my colleague's room door open. We have valuables and money in there, and that is unacceptable. The bins aren't changed daily. I left an empty shower gel bottle on the bathroom shelf near the edge as an obvious sign it needed replacing, but it was still there when I came back. The seagulls are really annoying, even with foam earplugs. It's better with the balcony door shut, but then the room's air and temperature quickly get worse. It's getting worse.

I stayed here in Oct 2024. The hotel is a short walk from HHW station, which is handy. At first glance it seemed okay, but the hallway to the rooms was dark and tacky, like a cheap, tacky knocking shop. The rooms are old, past their best, and urgently need a refit. I wouldn't stay again.

The room was clean and nice, but there was a lot of noise, and staff didn't do much to quiet the other guests, who were kids. Breakfast isn't included in the price, which is already too high for this kind of hotel. I didn't like it very much.

A cozy, atmospheric hotel, with lovely rooms and amazing views. The staff were friendly and the service was great. I'll definitely come back!
