Veluwe camping De Pampel

We had a peaceful stay at this scenic, quiet campsite, and the staff were incredibly helpful. I accidentally threw away my expensive thermal merino clothes, so we asked if they could help. They opened the garbage truck for us and lent us tools to search through it, and we managed to get the clothes back. Their kindness made the stay unforgettable. Beautiful location and amazing service, highly recommend.

The accommodation was dusty and smelled of smoke. At night it felt like sleeping inside an ashtray. We were four, two adults and two children, in a trunk with three mattresses side by side, and it wasn't comfortable because someone inevitably had to sleep between mattresses. The campsite itself isn't huge, but it didn't feel cramped, and the pools were never too busy. Kids' entertainment was nice, with lots of activities. I never saw a child using a mobile phone, they were all busy playing, which was great. Bikes and karts are available to rent. There are lots of cars because the exit and the central area with the pools and theatre are right on the main road used by cars coming and going, but they never seemed dangerous.

The showers and toilets were fantastic and included in the price, and the campsite is in a lovely national park area. The outdoor pool is nice, with a roof on rails that can turn it into an indoor pool. We paid 27 Euro for two people, a campervan, and electricity. There was a 20 euro deposit for the barrier key, refunded when we left. Services were quite reduced during the off-season week, but it's still a great campsite. One thing to know: the hookup is 6amp, and it tripped when we used an electric kettle. For an extra 1euro per night, you can increase it to 10amp, which worked fine.

The kids had a fabulous week here with my in-laws, and the campsite is well maintained. Toilets, showers, and open areas were clean. It's set in beautiful green countryside in the heart of the Netherlands, with plenty of space for a camper, caravan, or tent. My main complaint was the unfriendly service at reception and in the restaurant. When we came to collect the kids, we forgot to check in at reception, which meant we hadn't paid the 3 euros per person. After 20 minutes, the owner came over and told us to pay in a very unfriendly way. We tried to eat dinner there despite the unfriendly man, but after we called reception, we were told there was no room in the restaurant. With few other options nearby, we chose takeaway instead. The restaurant looked empty, though, and what we saw didn't match what we had been told on the phone. The kids enjoyed themselves, but I'd rate customer service a 2, or wait 10 years before coming back.
