There was enough room for four of us and our Frenchie, and the beds, pillows and linens were all very comfortable. It’s a calm, well-run place that’s easy to reach by car and not too far from the airport. We did miss having a table and chairs where we could sit down for a snack.

The biggest issue for us was the way the place was presented online and how we were treated when we tried to sort things out. We’d booked a double room with a private bathroom, but when we arrived to pay for our five nights, we were told there was also a 6% tourist tax, which hadn’t been mentioned anywhere. Then, after we’d bought meat, pasta and other groceries, we were told the kitchen was only for the breakfast they offered for €10 per person. The man who spoke with us about it also said we weren’t getting a private bathroom and called us liars. We were shocked by the way he seemed to deny the information we’d seen online. The private-bathroom option no longer appears if you try booking now. We couldn’t return the food, so we asked his partner, who we think was his wife, if we could cook the meat instead of throwing it away. She said, smiling, that we could use the kitchen for “only” €10. When we asked if that covered all five days, she laughed and said it would let us fry the fillets, and not to ask for more because she was doing us a “favor.” We thought that price was excessive, so we chose takeaway instead. We also asked if we could use the garden, which was included in the listing, and she answered rudely and seemed unhappy about it. We’d been excited when we found this place, since it looked like an affordable alternative to Amsterdam hotels and had a kitchen. It was farther from Amsterdam, but the prices looked better. In reality, it was their house with rooms for rent, not the B&B we expected. The double bed was two single mattresses pushed together, the Wi-Fi had no signal, and check-in times were inflexible: we arrived at 1 pm and couldn’t check in. We also got little help from the hosts and found their treatment poor. All of it made the trip much more expensive for us. For a bit more money, you may find a better-run hotel with better conditions and a more convenient location. If you choose a B&B, check that it really is one and not a private house renting rooms. We hope nobody else has this experience, because it affected the budget for our whole trip.

The rooms were cozy, and the host was great. He’s Indian and serves breakfast himself. The Wi-Fi could use improvement. There’s a bus stop nearby for getting to the station, where you can catch connections to pretty much anywhere in Europe.

There was dust under the bed, and we only got two towels. Not very good.
