Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam - Schiphol by IHG

We stayed the night before flying back to the US. The shower had no cold water, and I only discovered that after I was already naked and in it. We had to change rooms, which was a real inconvenience, and the whole situation was terrible. The staff tried to make up for it, and bought us a drink and sent a dessert plate to our restaurant, which was a nice gesture. Still, we were disappointed that there was no room upgrade available and no king bed. We prefer other IHG properties and won’t stay at Holiday Inn again.

We were happy with the service, and the complimentary breakfast was quick and a nice bonus. A shuttle would have been welcome, but the walk to Hoofddorp station is pleasant and not too long. From there, trains get you to the airport and Amsterdam Centraal quickly and easily. The rooms were small, and ours seemed to have been unused for a while, since there was quite a bit of dust. Still, no major complaints. We’d made a last-minute, budget-conscious trip to Amsterdam and chose an airport-area hotel for the lower prices, better value and greater availability.

At least breakfast was pleasant, and the hotel has Wi-Fi, basic amenities and a location near Schiphol. The rest of the stay was poor. My roommate’s food went cold, and the hotel couldn’t heat it. The sink clogged, the heater didn’t work while my roommate was sick, and we had to ask for a toilet brush. Service was awful. Staff made little effort to help, and the cleaners were the only people who spoke Dutch. Since we’re in the Netherlands, I found it strange that the cleaners spoke Dutch while the front-desk staff didn’t. Perhaps a cleaner could have helped figure out how to warm my roommate’s food. Two stars.

We really appreciated how clean everything was, from the hotel and bathroom to the shared spaces. The staff were helpful and friendly, and breakfast had lots of choices. It’s a convenient spot, about a 10-minute walk to Hoofddorp Station and then a five-minute train ride to the airport. There’s a free drink per person per day if you skip room service, a nice perk for some. The reception bar and pizza oven out front were handy too. Well worth what we paid.
