Hotel Duhoux Leeuwarden

This is a cosy place to rest and enjoy a good meal in rural Holland. The menu includes local fish, and there’s a large wine selection. The staff were helpful and friendly. It’s clean, with the special feel of an old grandmother’s house. Don’t expect a shiny five-star Hilton, but the kitchen is amazing and the atmosphere is lovely.

We booked at the last minute because there wasn’t much else available, and ended up very lucky. The rooms are simple, clean, and adequate, and good value for the price. Downstairs, the bar and restaurant feel cosy, and there’s a pleasant terrace on a lovely village street. The food was a real surprise, tasty and very well prepared, with some nice little touches. The staff were super friendly, and the wine was great too. I can’t recommend this place enough.

The desserts were generous, satisfyingly good, and presented festively, while the vegetables were especially well prepared. I’ve eaten here four times while travelling in The Netherlands. The menu shows how traditional fare can be served and taste at its best, which was an unexpected delight. The atmosphere is quaint, and the village is lovely and historic.

The kitchen is excellent, and the staff are lovely, helpful, and very friendly. The hotel is right in the village centre on a quiet street. I definitely want to come back often.
