The Dylan Amsterdam

We spent the winter holidays at The Dylan, and the only thing we'd change is staying longer. The room was lovely, the location couldn't have been better, and the staff were incredible. It was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. We plan to return to Amsterdam, and we'll absolutely stay at The Dylan again.

TLDR: lovely room, but my phone went missing while we were there. The comfort, facilities, and quality of our stay at The Dylan were fine, and the hotel itself was excellent. We had booked a garden view but were given a canal view. When we raised it, they asked us to show pictures or proof of our booking, which struck me as an odd response. The room was enjoyable, apart from the very steep stairs and a strange metal pipe that ran across the ceiling all the way outside the window. It was cleaned only once, and we didn't use turndown service. Everything else about the hotel was superb, which makes what happened all the more disappointing. A Samsung phone went missing from our room. I had left it outside by the safe before leaving. The hotel investigated and gave assurances, but I am certain housekeeping took it. I know I should have locked the phone in the safe, yet it was upsetting that this could happen at a hotel of The Dylan's caliber. I later saw another guest review mentioning theft too. Management should seriously vet and look into the housekeeping team, and take stronger precautions so this doesn't happen to others. I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it. Theft at a luxury hotel is simply unacceptable. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck.

The rooms are luxurious and modern, with thoughtful touches and very comfortable beds. The hotel sits right by a canal at the edge of the Nine Streets boutique district and the city center, so everything was an easy walk. We were dropped off and didn't need a car again until we left three days later. There are lovely places to relax inside too, including a fireplace salon, a comfortable bar/cafe, and two patios, one out front and one in the courtyard. It's small enough to feel cozy, while the service is extraordinary. We arrived after an overnight flight and were greeted right on the street with our bags taken, herbal tea, and a warm, fresh muffin. Concierge Ronald introduced himself, asked what we like doing, and then suggested and arranged a walking tour and a canal boat tour. He also advised us on museums and walks, asked what food we liked, booked several great dinners, and made sure we had an umbrella when rain was forecast. He made our trip better all by himself. The rest of the team answered “of course” to everything we asked. The employees deserve a lot of credit, as does whoever trained them and set the standards. We loved this hotel, recommended The Dylan to friends already, and will absolutely stay again.

Renting bikes was easy and fun, and the staff were helpful and friendly. Everyone we encountered gave top-notch service. Our room was charming even though we booked the lowest tier, and the daily breakfast was outstanding, especially the soft scramble of my dreams. The location was great for walking. Loved it!
