I loved how cozy this room felt, with so much space and a wonderful view that made me want to stay in instead of exploring. There’s a TV, heater and fan to suit your needs. The town is really nice to explore, and the location is great, five minutes from the train and a ten-minute walk from the centre. A few drawbacks: the restroom is snug, there’s no lift and the stairs are steep. You can’t leave luggage for long because the hotel’s operating hours are limited. If you arrive outside 10am-1pm, they leave instructions for getting the room keys.

We stayed for a week, and honestly it was a nightmare. The location is convenient, close to everything, but the price is too high for what you get. The room is tiny and extremely hot, and they need to do something about the AC. The bathroom door is ridiculous for a couple, since you’ll see and hear the other person using it. Getting the key from another hotel because there’s no proper reception felt unsafe and unwelcoming. During the first few days there was construction or renovation, I’m not sure which, with loud noise in the mornings and the room impossible to stay in during the afternoon. We had to email the other hotel to ask for extra towels. There was no room service for the whole stay, and we had to buy toilet paper ourselves. This can’t be called a hotel, it’s more like an Airbnb or something else.

The location was convenient, but I’d have traded it for a real hotel. This was the worst stay of my three-week trip in the Netherlands, and I suggest avoiding this place. The Wi-Fi didn’t work, and the owners or reception ignored multiple emails while we were there. The only email came after checkout, asking us to fill in a questionnaire. The room was incredibly hot, with no air conditioning; the single fan couldn’t change speed or direction. Nearly all the windows were painted shut, and the one that opened was so heavy there was nothing to hold it open. The stairwell had a strange musty smell, not drugs. The room was generally clean, except for soap left in the bathroom by the previous guest. It felt more like an Airbnb-style money-making operation than a hotel, with zero customer service. The room was incredibly small, with nowhere to open luggage except the floor or bed. Doesn’t everyone need to open their luggage?

We booked The Rembrant Hotel but were sent to their sister hotel LOT. The rooms were clean, but the staircase was very steep and dangerous. The radiators didn’t work, the shower water was cold, the bathroom had no light, and the TV wouldn’t tune in. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

We loved Leiden and would stay here again if we came back. Our room inside LOT hotel was small but clean, and the reception at Rembrandt hotel was friendly and handled everything efficiently in English, which helped since we don’t speak Dutch. Thank you!
