B&B Hart van Leiden

The room was spotless, with those heavy windows you can raise and lower electronically, and even Rituals bath foam. The host was incredibly friendly and gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne. My in-laws had booked for two, but when she heard we were spending the day showing them around, she put out two extra glasses for us too. Such a great place to stay.

Monique was lovely, and the room and bathroom were both absolutely spotless. The beds were comfortable, and we had a nice view over the canal. The bedroom isn't ensuite, as the private bathroom is across the landing, which surprised us at first but worked out fine. It's about a 10-minute walk from the bus station, which is also the train station, and there's plenty nearby, including a couple of coffee shops. One thing to check first: the stairs are very narrow and winding, so anyone with mobility issues should talk to the host. Otherwise, it's clean, central, and run by a lovely lady.

The main thing to keep in mind is the stairs. The room is at the top of the house, so there are quite a few steps with luggage, which could be difficult for anyone with knee or leg injuries. We had a lovely stay, though. The room and toilet were clean and well supplied, and the owner welcomed us and shared a useful list of restaurants around town. The B&B is in a charming old building from the 1700s, about a 10-15 minute walk from most of the city centre.

The owner was lovely, the room was lovely, and the view was lovely too. The stairs are pretty steep, so they might be a problem for some people, but I managed fine at 70. We'll come back.
