Huis Van Steen

This was a really bad experience. The room and surroundings were much smaller than the pictures suggested, and the view wasn’t good. At check-in, nobody told me when checkout was. I left two hours late the next day, but no one knocked or called to remind me, and there wasn’t even a phone in the room. When I checked out, the staff member was unpleasant and said the person cleaning the room might already have left because I was late. I paid the extra 25 euros, and she still had a very bad attitude, put the documents on the table, and walked away.

The garden and its wonderful display of African sculptures made this such an interesting place to stay. Breakfast was delicious, with loads of choice, and it was so family friendly. Marion gave us a wonderful welcome and was a superb hostess, always ready to help. We won’t forget her kindness and hospitality. Thank you, Marion.

I was welcomed very warmly, and the owner even arranged a rental bike. Booking was easy, the room was large enough, and the service was great. There’s free tea and coffee in the room, along with a TV and wireless LAN. I thought the price was fair. Definitely recommend Huis van Steen!

The rest of the stay was okay, but the service felt very unprofessional. The website said check-in was from 15 to 20, and we hadn’t agreed on an arrival time for 25/12. When I got there, they said, “we didn’t know at what time you would arrive.” I didn’t understand that answer. After waiting more than 20 minutes, the employee also didn’t know how the payment worked or what she was supposed to do. She called me the next day to work out when I would pay, even though we could have sorted it out that same day.
