Hotel The Dutch

The hotel is close to Maastricht's centre, and I had a good stay. My spacious room had a coffee table and chair, plus a high desk with a bar stool. The bathroom had both a bath and shower and was very clean. Breakfast was good, though the buffet didn't have a huge selection. I liked the coffee machine and the inner courtyard, which they call the jungle. There's no reception, so check in at the automated counter. If the door's closed when you arrive, ring the bell. The staff were friendly.

The location is the one thing I liked. Everything looked shiny and renovated until I got to the room. There was no headboard, and just one pillow, so if you wanted to sit up in bed you had to lean against the wall. The AC swing was broken, leaving it blowing in one direction, with no way to change the angle. The shower cabin was a joke, with squeaky doors and a leaking tap, and I could barely fit in it. If you're a big bloke, you won't fit. There was also a sticky stain on the nightstand that I had to wipe off myself.

Once we got settled, the room was a highlight. It was large, well designed, functional and fun. We both appreciated having two sleeping pillows each. The honesty bar was easy to use, fairly priced, reasonably clean, and well stocked. Breakfast was fresh and adequate. We didn't use the courtyard or entertainment room, but might next time. We enjoyed the stay enough to plan another visit to Maastricht for shopping, and we'd like to stay at "The Dutch" again. The check-in was the only problem. Our correspondence with the hotel didn't match the booking, and because it's self-service, we had to contact staff by landline, which was conveniently provided nearby. It eventually got sorted, and we got our original booking. For a hotel in this category, that check-in issue stood out, even though otherwise everything was tippy top and extremely innovative for a self-service hotel.

I was here on a work trip and had an amazing experience. The hotel is cozy and super clean, with very comfortable beds. The area was really nice, and I never felt safer. I love Maastricht!
