De Koepoort

A beautiful place close to the city centre. The apartments are lovely, and the building itself has a lot of historic character.

A cozy place to stay, decorated with real care. It feels quite unique.

The apartment looks cozy and has all the amenities, but the living area is narrow. The stairs are very steep and tight, with a deep open drop beside them, so they could be difficult for anyone with mobility problems or a fear of heights. The toilet is upstairs too, meaning you'll need to use those stairs.

We'd stayed twice before in the other, main building and had a good time, so we thought trying Koepoort would be nice. It was a letdown. The place felt cramped, and the narrow stairs were difficult to manage. Worse, the rooms smelled of sewage or feces all weekend. Leaving the door open didn't help, and apparently this has been an ongoing problem. We asked for a small change to breakfast because I have diabetes and don't eat muesli, chocolate sprinkles, fruit yogurt, and similar things. They ignored the request, even though it was pricey. We only wanted two extra slices of bread, but got a string of excuses about not having bought enough bread. A cleaning woman also came to the door and told us emotional stories about the business that were no help to us. Very odd. When we were leaving, the owner was unreachable too. It all went very differently from what we expected. A complete failure for us.
