We especially enjoyed Oirschot itself, with its greenery, tidy front gardens, charming center, many restaurants, and big church. At the B&B, breakfast was included and both generous and delicious. The shared spaces made it easy to spend time together, as we do in the Netherlands: there’s a kitchen and breakfast area beside the living room, and a snug hallway sitting area with a TV, books, and pretty decorations. The bedrooms are modest in size but practical and comfortably furnished in Dutch style. There’s no TV in the rooms, though there is a large bathroom with a roomy shower. Outside, the old farm property is well kept, with a small kitchen garden, a dog, chickens, and a covered spot by the house with a big table for family dinners. We picked Ameidehoeve Bed & Breakfast online on the recommendation of a friend who lives nearby; the location and price seemed reasonable, and it wasn’t too expensive. The owner lives next door, which gives guests privacy. One thing bothered me: after we paid, the landlady didn’t appear again, so there was no proper goodbye. It felt unprofessional and unlike the people we’d met in the Netherlands. She seemed friendly but quiet, and since our Dutch companion was with us, it couldn’t have been a language issue.
