DoubleTree by Hilton Rotterdam Centre Hotel

A few rooms have a breathtaking view of the erasmus bridge, and I’d choose this hotel again if I had the chance. It’s very well connected, right beside the metro station, and the service and security were commendable. My reason for giving four stars is the breakfast. It wasn’t bad, but the options felt a bit limited, and I’ve had better choices at other chains of this calibre.

Our room was crisp, clean, and comfortable, especially the bed, which gave us a great night’s sleep. The hotel is newly fitted out inside, with a modern, bright feel, and check-in was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful, explained the services clearly, and gave us a useful area map. There’s a large kiosk for drinks and snacks, plus a connected bistro and bar, and room service is available. Breakfast is served in a separate dining room, with a generous buffet and something for everyone. The location is handy for the Maritime Museum, shopping area, and harbour excursions. The tram stop is across the street, but road works meant it wasn’t running during our stay. I can recommend the hotel for its comfort, service, and Rotterdam location, with views all around.

At 01:30 AM, someone knocked on my door saying he was from reception and that there was supposedly a smell of smoke. I was staying at the DoubleTree Hilton with another young woman, and as two women travelling alone, we didn’t feel safe opening the door to an unidentified man in the middle of the night. No one had called or warned us first. I rang reception right away to check whether they had sent him. I spoke to the manager, David, who was rude from the start. When I asked why it couldn’t wait until morning, he abruptly ended the call. Ten minutes later, he and the man came upstairs and knocked aggressively again, telling me to leave immediately. There was no proper explanation or earlier warning, and our safety wasn’t treated with respect. David repeatedly said inappropriate things, including, “I will kick you out of my hotel because you broke the policy.” Even if a policy had been broken, this wasn’t an acceptable or professional way to handle it. He gave me 15 minutes to vacate the room and demanded €150, which I was willing to pay. But because of his hostility and complete lack of concern for our safety, I left and booked another hotel rather than stay another minute. It was a shocking, unsafe, and deeply unprofessional experience. I hope the hotel reviews its staff training, especially on guest safety, communication, and respectful handling of situations.

Florencia made dinner such a great experience. She was attentive and sweet, and her wine and dessert suggestions were amazing. We felt really well looked after, and her outstanding service made the evening unforgettable. Highly recommend dining here with her, she’s simply the best!
