Carlton Beach

The breakfast is always great, and there's plenty of parking, though it's better to ask about parking when you book. The staff are friendly and helpful, and since the 2025 renovation everything is clean and new. Personally, I preferred the bar and restaurant's old look. The new style feels a bit cold and too 'in' to me, with less character.

The pool, sauna and gym were all very good, and the staff were lovely, speaking several languages to accommodate everyone. My wife and I had the New Year menu, a five-course meal, and were really pleased with the food. We spent five days here over New Year and had a fantastic time. This hotel right on the beach was worth every penny.

The bathroom was the letdown: there was no door at all, the showerhead was mouldy, and the ventilation was noisy. I hope they renovate the bathrooms too, as I've had much better ones in cheaper hotels. The bed was very comfortable and everything was clean. I also liked the renovated, decorated lobby, with fun puns around the place and a bit of an 80s feel. The best thing is the location at the end of the beach, with a gorgeous view of the pier and surroundings.

We paid €325 for one night for a back-facing room overlooking the trams, with the noise that came with them. The bed was under a window that couldn't be fully blinded. It felt like a rip-off, especially since the same room was almost €75 cheaper on the day we stayed than when we booked in March. When we complained, they called it 'marketing'. The receptionist said we could speak to the manager in the morning, but of course there was no manager then. Pfff.
