The Forester Schoorl

Birdsong and wind in the trees made the cottage feel so peaceful, and its position worked well for both Hargen and Schoorl beaches. Menno and Sabine were incredibly hospitable and had thought of everything. The cozy cottage is fully equipped and the beds were comfortable. We’d love to return.

We got a friendly welcome, and the cottage was clean. It’s in a handy spot for walks in the dunes or a bike ride to the beach, and the Zandspoor activity center is within walking distance too. The cottage is practically on the climbing dune, away from a main road. We’ll definitely return.

We were disappointed, especially given the high price. The landlords were nice and the house was clean, but it really didn’t meet our expectations. The photos make everything look much bigger. The tiny terrace, with its wooden panels, felt like a cage, and the taped up garden facing windows meant we couldn’t look outside. It felt very oppressive. The bathroom was musty, and the smell got worse over the days. The small ventilation system didn’t work, and the window couldn’t be opened, even with the tape over it. The upper floor was far smaller than we expected, and the stairs were very steep. It’s advertised for four people, which seems completely unsuitable. There were just two of us, and that worked. Getting in with luggage was difficult too, through a narrow gap between the garage and fence.

The hosts are incredibly friendly, and the place is peaceful for unwinding with family. There are also the dunes and the famous Schoorl MTB route if you want a good workout. A great base for exploring the area, highly recommended!
