Fletcher Hotel-Restaurant De Dikke van Dale was a big disappointment. The room was unbearable in the heat because the air conditioning didn't work. The place presents itself as a quality hotel, but the rooms felt tired, with old furniture and worn carpet. It wasn't worth the price, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

At this price, the breakfast quality is unacceptable, less than basic. Several plates that were supposedly clean still had food stains. The rooms are old and outdated, with very little comfort. It might be less of a problem if the price were reasonable.

We found plenty of parking, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was included and far better than the basic spread we expected, with lots of breads and pastries, croissants, cereals, fresh fruit, cooked bacon, sausages and tomatoes. One of our three rooms was pretty bad, though, with a strange cigarette smell and poor ventilation. I was able to go for a morning run from the hotel to the border without any trouble. A good-value hotel on a quiet stretch of the route to Bruges, just before crossing the border at Slouis town.

The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive, with a friendly attitude, and went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. Their service made our stay pleasant despite the building's condition and the parking hassle. It's a charming hotel, but dated and in need of refurbishment. The building shows wear and could use modern updates. We also found non-electric cars in the spaces set aside for electric vehicle charging, which was inconvenient and suggests the parking rules need better enforcement.
