Vakantiepark 't Urkerbos - Kabouterhuisje

Cycling was a highlight: the track starts right outside the campsite, and after crossing the road and riding through the woods, you reach the dam route with a striking view of the wind turbines. Urk, with its lighthouse and harbour, is an easy ride away. We stopped for ice cream at the parlour below the restaurant. The beach is narrow along the route but opens up at spots with playground equipment, and swimming is good there without big waves. You can ride for miles around here. Our pitch was in the campervan area at the front of the main campsite, with a hardstanding and a grass section, neatly divided by bushes and flowers. We looked out over the stables and horses. Toilets, showers for 50 cents, and washing-up facilities are right there. For a 5 euro deposit, you can get a pass to the main campsite’s free toilets and showers. You need the pass for the washing machines and dryers too, and get the deposit back when you return it. Everything was spotless. We used the swimming pool several times because it was hot, though the water was a little cold. There’s also a great playground with a bouncy castle and a kids club, though we didn’t have children with us. We ate at the restaurant: the pizza and chips were excellent and the pizza was huge, so we shared it. The ice creams were enormous too, but we kept those to ourselves! One pizza, chips, a beer, a Coke, and two ice creams came to just under 30 euros. Staff were friendly, helpful, and informative. One of the best campsites we’ve visited, maybe the best. We’d definitely recommend it, 5/5.

The reception staff were friendly and very helpful, and you can check in or out through the automated gate. We stayed a couple of nights in this area, where there’s plenty of room to park a camper and access to all the nearby campsite facilities. It worked well for us, and we’d come back.

A really pleasant overnight stay. The toilets and showers were clean, and there are nice paths for walking or jogging, plus places for kids to play and hang out. It was very quiet at night and I enjoyed being there. The mattress felt a bit hard for me, though.

I can’t recommend this resort. Friends and I booked house number 2 for a weekend night, but it had fleas jumping on us and all around the place. We were glad we hadn’t brought our things inside. After a brief intervention, we were moved to another house that was supposedly cleaned, number 8, but its bed was covered in dust. Once home, we started itching. We found that we had brought bugs back with us and had been bitten, so we had to thoroughly clean our flat and throw things away. We’ve travelled for over a dozen years and stayed in tents, hostels, motels, and 5-star hotels, but this has never happened to us before. If you want fleas and bed bugs, stress, and health problems, this is the place to go.
