Fletcher Hotel De Geulvallei

The restaurant meal was good and the service was good too. It’s a quiet hotel, but an old one that needs restoration. I woke several times because the room never really warmed up. Spring or summer might suit it better.

The location worked well for us, near Maastricht and even closer to lovely Valkenburg, where there are plenty of good places to eat. We got a deal, so the stay felt okay for the price. If you just need somewhere to sleep for a night, it does the job. Our room was clean, simple, and quite small, as we expected, but the hotel is clearly dated and needs serious maintenance. The elevator is still out of order, though that wasn’t a big issue for us since we were mostly there to sleep. Noise carries from the corridor, and once we heard snoring and talking from the next room, so people near us probably heard us too. There was no tea-making equipment in the room, but we could rent a kettle for €5 per night. The staff we met were kind and helpful, and dinner was fine.

Maybe this hotel is good, but the employees couldn’t tell whether the room had been paid for. My driver had a reservation for 2 days that was already paid. Even so, the receptionist said it was only reserved and asked him to pay again. He paid, and then I sent proof that it had already been paid. The manager said the money would be returned within 14 days. It’s now been 18 days and nothing has come back, because apparently I sent the wrong bank account details. The biggest disappointment is that nobody answers emails or the phone. I’ll try asking my bank to recover the money. I’d advise other customers to be very careful in case the same thing happens to them.

The location is nice, and the evening staff were very friendly. The morning staff, not so much. We stayed 3 days, and the elevator was broken, with at least 2 more months before it would be fixed. One person in our group found the stairs a major hurdle, which made the stay unpleasant. If you’re not physically fit, it’s better not to stay here.
