Fort Vuren

We stayed in the spacious, luxurious “KONING” apartment, which suited our group well. It's part of a former military barracks with three apartments that can be connected, making the property suitable for events, retreats or team-building. There are also lovely spaces for private events and ceremonies. We enjoyed the hot tub, an evening campfire and the well-kept green grounds. The setting is peaceful and surrounded by nature, with geese the only sound breaking the quiet. The historic fortress is a real museum, especially fascinating for the children. The restaurant has vintage charm with modern touches, tasty food and warm, friendly service. It's a great place to get away from daily routines, spend some time to yourself and explore by bike. Renovations are underway, and camping with shared facilities is also available. A unique mix of history, nature and comfort. Have a look for yourself, you won't regret it.

We spent a night in the “Bunker room,” which was a real adventure for adults and kids alike. Getting in means ducking through a low entrance, so it's definitely not suitable for people with disabilities. Inside, it's utilitarian but well designed. The facilities are in the main fortress, clean and very good, with a military feel while still being comfortable. The restaurant looks nice, and the other accommodation is more mainstream, from rooms and glamping pods to high-end luxury suites.

The fort is lovely and you can explore all of it. We camped there with a tent for one night; the service was friendly and breakfast was very nice. The washroom and toilets were clean. The only downside was that wifi was available only in the restaurant, not at the campsite.

We booked the Wachthuisje - Dome. It's a nice idea, but the walk to the sanitary facilities is far too long, especially at night in the dark. The background noise was overwhelming for us, with motorways and diesel-powered vessels making for an uncomfortable night.
