The setting is lovely if you want to get out of the city and spend time in nature, and Wolfheze station is about a 30-minute walk away. The hotel has the basics for a short weekend, though it feels a bit like the late 1990s or 2000s. Nothing was inconvenient, but newer facilities would have made the stay more comfortable. We ate at the restaurant. The food was fine, but for a four-star hotel and those menu prices, I expected a little more. Still, that may just be the usual standard for this kind of place. I’d stay again, though next time I’d look at other options in the area too.

This is about our dealings with the Fletcher Hotels main service desk, not de Buunderkamp itself. The hotel gets full marks from me because I don’t think it should be blamed for the main desk’s mess. We had a gift coupon and hoped to stay for three nights. It was difficult to book the room we wanted, so we called the central desk. The person who answered helped arrange a room for the dates, and we were told a confirmation email would arrive within ten minutes. It never came. When I called the next day, we learned they had booked a junior suite rather than the regular suite. We’d been told the junior suite had no bath and was upstairs with a balcony, while the regular suite was on the ground floor with a terrace. Because of my health, having a bath and a ground-floor room was essential. After searching online, I found that our second night had meanwhile been booked in the suite, and there were no other suites available. Three calls and three emails later, it still wasn’t sorted, so we cancelled the whole stay. We usually choose independent hotels and have never had this sort of trouble there. The headache simply wasn’t worth it. The hotel itself might have been perfect. My wife and I think de Buunderkamp could do better as an independent hotel, but that’s just our opinion. We might try booking it again sometime without the Fletcher chain involved, though we’ve already spent those three nights elsewhere, so it could be a while.

We only stayed one night, and it was lovely. The room was clean, the mattress and pillows were really comfortable, and the location was beautiful. We also enjoyed the pool, indoor play area for kids, and good breakfast. We’ll definitely come back!

The breakfast room was the nicest part of the hotel, and breakfast was good. The man looking after it was very friendly. At the entrance things were fairly welcoming, and the receptionist was okay. We also liked the rustic look of the corridors. Our room, though, was a disaster. There was a moldy smell, dirty carpet, dust all over the cupboard above the clothes, and cobwebs in the bathroom. The bathroom was only more or less clean and had an unpleasant odor, while the shower barely had any water pressure. I know it’s an old hotel, but they really need to be more careful about cleaning.

We got a free upgrade from a regular double to a superior room, which was a nice surprise. It was very spacious, with a big bed, red leather armchairs, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a large balcony. The bathroom looked fairly recently renovated and had plenty of room, with both a tub and a shower. It’s tucked away among the trees, quite a distance from the main roads. We arrived after 10 p.m., and driving along the narrow forest road felt unusual, though Google Maps worked well. Parking was tricky that late, and we ended up in a tiny, narrow spot. A couple of furniture pieces looked worn, but nothing too serious. The bed was too soft for us, though someone else might like it. There was also a side door connecting to the next room. It stayed securely closed, but in the morning we could clearly hear people talking just behind it, which made us feel like someone might come into our room. Nobody did, but it felt strange. For a good-priced overnight stay in a quiet natural setting, it should do the job, especially if you like being surrounded by greenery.
