Ecolodge

The owners were friendly, accommodating, and quick to deal with any problems or requests. We were three guests at the Ecolodge from December 25th to 30th, and could easily imagine vacationing here again. During colder weather, the underfloor heating kept us warm. The fully glazed, opening windows bring in plenty of daylight and look out over the countryside around Oostknollendam. Free-range chickens or sheep may visit in the morning; the chickens can be annoying at first because they start crowing early, though you get used to it. The area is otherwise beautiful and peaceful, but the many low-flying airliners interrupt the quiet somewhat. If that doesn’t bother you, it’s a lovely place to relax. The wooden house has two floors and is clad in metal. Downstairs there’s a room with a sofa bed, table, and chairs, a living room with a sofa and armchair, an open kitchen and dining area, and a toilet with a walk-in shower. Upstairs, reached by wooden stairs, the sleeping area has a double bed and two mattresses for children, and is open to the living area. The toilet is cramped and basic, with a very small sink that’s really only useful for washing hands, and only cold water. The shower has no enclosure, so most of the floor gets wet, and there’s no window, which leaves a slight odor. Otherwise, everything was clean and in good condition. They provide plenty of towels and a hairdryer. The kitchen is clean and has everything needed: a sink, gas stove and oven, dishwasher, fridge, pots, pans, and dishes. Everything worked perfectly. The setup is simple and functional, and can seem a bit thrown together, but it has a certain charm that suits the house. Anyone without high expectations should be perfectly happy here.
