Hotell Arendal

The family room was actually two rooms connected together, each with its own bathroom, which worked out even better than I expected. Both were small, but clean and comfortable, with nice lighting. Breakfast was included and really good. Everything ran efficiently.

The only thing I’d change is the pillow. There was just one, and it was incredibly flat. Aside from that, this was great value, with a very clean, modern bathroom and rooms that felt much better than I expected. Mine was a simple single, but there was plenty of space to relax or get some work done. I’ve visited town plenty of times but had never tried this hotel until it was busy everywhere else. Check-in and checkout were easy online, and the room door worked with a PIN. I didn’t meet or speak to anyone during my stay. There’s a vending machine downstairs, plus shops and cafés nearby. I’d recommend it.

The digital lock was the one thing I liked. It meant you didn’t need staff, though there’s also no reception desk, something I only found out shortly before check-in. Towels may only be changed every third day. The room lacked a closet, TV, mini-fridge, kettle, free coffee, tea, drinks, or fruit. The only coffee machine for the whole hotel was out of order, as shown in the photos, and the vending machine had very little choice. Food and drinks could only be paid for by card. There were no paper napkins, and the narrow bathroom had just one small trash bin. At this price, hotels in Norway usually include those things and a breakfast buffet. Breakfast wasn’t provided here, though that was listed in the specifications. The room charge was average, but so many basic comforts and facilities were missing that the stay was unpleasant. I won’t come back unless their policies change.

The showers and toilets were spotless, and the capsule gave me privacy and a quiet night since it closes off, much better than a dorm. Free hot water was available, while coffee and snacks on another floor cost extra. I’d recommend it for a few nights in Arendal. ☺️
